Obviously for people completely new to using video camcorders. Good basic information. Covers lighting techniques, filters, plenty of tips/techniques. There's a whole section, at the end, that walks you through the installing a firewire card in a (Windows-based) PC.
There's a section on using video editing tools, which shows screen shots and illustrations of several programs. I'd prefer to have had this time allotted to more about the use of the camcorder. Taking this editing section, and the firewire card installation section, occupies about a quarter of the video.
Primarily filmed in Portland, Oregon. Total running time, abt 1 hour.
The sound quality is not that great. This is ironic (to me) because the video discusses sound and illustrates the difference between the audio coming from the camcorder's built-in mic, and the use of separate microphones (used in this video!). Still the audio quality of this production sounds like you're hearing it with a cardboard box on your head.
The beginning shots are amusing, in that the auto-focus bounces around a bit. You can see the narrator's face fade in and out of focus slightly, while he's talking.
Worth $20, or so, but begs for an "advanced techniques" version.

To do this, you must take an image focused toward the foreground and the other image favoring the background. Leave some overlapping details in the middle where the two images are supposed to meet. Another alternative is to throw the background out of focus and also take a close-up image of an image. If you combine both images, the result will center on the close-up image however, it will create a certain background that will complement the focal image. The essential elements of this technique are the combination of a small aperture subject to a wide-aperture one and then combining it digitally. If you havent try this, you have to find time to explore this technique and feel the amazing tickle of your masterpiece.

Customer Review: VERY poor & advertising is not accurate
CAUTION: I am almost certain this review will apply to this model, though I recently bought (and returned) a similar model. Both are about the same price (I bought mine at Sam's Club). Mine is (was) a 1.5x24, this one is a 2.0x24, but otherwise the specs appear to be the same. And the shape and size are the same between the two models, just a different color scheme. The advertising on both says it can be used for surveillance, etc. Not so! If you merely wanted to observe for a while, or wait until the person did something specific or moved to a particular position before deciding what you do next, forget it - he's already aware of you because he can see your red light pointing directly at him. There may be infrared coming out the front, but there's also visible red light which, by definition, is not infrared (which lies between visible light and microwave frequencies).
The pictures on the packaging were deceptive at best, also. Focus is nowhere near as good as what's depicted in the advertising. And make SURE you read the instructions first about initial focus, or you'll never be able to figure out how to focus it.
I really wanted this to work, but was concerned about how good or poor a low-end night vision scope would be. I took it back the very next evening. I'll have to save up for a more expensive scope if I really want a good one that much - this model is not much more than an expensive toy. I wasn't expecting the quality of night vision equipment used by the military, but this was still unacceptable.

Graduated up from an Olympus E-20 and this Rebel smokes it. The user interface is outstanding, really top notch. You can make quick changes on the fly to AF and white balance and ISO speed. The ability to use interchangeable lenses is outstanding. I put a Sigma 70-200mm lens on the Rebel and I get much better shots than ever before. I am a believer that the lens is more inportant than the camera in what kind of pictures you get, but I wouldn't change my mind on starting my rig with a Rebel XTI.

Customer Review: Excellent Point and Shoot in an Excellent Package
This camera is predominantly used for taking pictures of family/friends when I go out on weekends and amateur photography for when I go on vacations or big events (ie. Mets Games). I've taken 2-3 GB's of photos/videos under various settings and have had it for one month.
I was torn between this and the Canon A720IS. The A720IS is better in that it has Image Stabilization (IS) and a 6x optical zoom (SD750 = 3x OZ), however, is much bulkier and uses AA batteries. Both are at excellent price points. Ultimately, I went with the SD750 because of it's 3" lcd, excellent battery life and compact design.
PRO's:
+ 3" LCD Screen- I have never used an optical viewfinder and see no purpose in it. As such, I'm glad Canon did away with it and replaced the space with a large LCD screen. The screen is bright, sharp and is easy to see in bright light conditions.
+ Compact Design- This is a tiny camera that can easily fit in one's pocket, but large and sturdy enough to feel solid when holding it. At this point in my life, a camera I can take anywhere is more important than a camera that can take professional quality photos.
+ Excellent Photo Quality- This camera takes excellent large photos under almost any condition, especially low light settings. The in-camera MY COLORS software is impressive, not just a gimmick. I use it in almost every picture I take, whether I want to emphasize one specific color or shoot a B&W picture and illuminate just one color. However, the "Color Swap" feature is useless.
+ Price Point- At $160, this camera is a tremendous value. Canon packs a lot into this package and SD memory cards are dirt cheap when compared to Sony's memory sticks.
+ Speed- Turns on and takes pictures within 2-3 seconds.
+ My Colors- The VIVID feature which accentuates a specific color in a photo (ie. a blue ocean or green grass) is solid and something you will use a lot.
+ Stitch Assist- The stitch assist software is a little elementary but does help create some incredible panoramics. Suggestion: take a few panoramic shots of your target because the pc software may butcher the stitching.
CON's:
- Flash too strong- Portrait shots taken in low light (ie. at a bar) can come out too bright because of the flash. Adjustments can be made to compensate.
- 3x Optical Zoom- Could use a stronger optical zoom, 3x is useless.
- Color Swap- MY COLORS is an amazing in-camera software set, but the Solor Swap feature within My Colors just doesn't work as well as advertised.
Bottom Line: With an excellent price point, great photos, large LCD screen, and compact size, the Canon SD 750 is a solid buy from a company that has dominated this end of the market. If you're more of a photographer and don't mind carrying around a larger camera, the A720IS may be a better alternative.
Customer Review: Outstanding Camera For The Money
I've owned Canon Powershot cameras for the last 8 years. I must say that they absolutely get better with age! This is my 4th Powershot and I am not disappointed whatsoever.
The screen is really bright and big... the extra .5 inch that makes it 3" total is really worth it. The startup time is less than a second making it ideal for getting that quick shot when you need to. The size makes it one of the best cameras for hiking or just taking with you in a theme park. It easily fits in my pocket and I almost forget it's there.
The flash is really powerful for it's size and I hope you take time to experiment with the Macro settings for getting real close-ups. There are a lot of modes you can play with on the camera... so it's not just a point and shoot! I use the macro mode all the time to get close-ups of people and flowers. You'd be amazed what you can do with this little guy! I'd highly recommend this Canon Powershot!! Josh

When your subject is not moving, it is easy for you to have several original and identical images. Then seize different exposures. After that, you can combine them together to give an atmosphere of transparency. Bear in mind though, that you have to know the exposure latitude. If you are not sure about what you are doing, just bracket the exposures to capture the highlights and shadows.
There can be a situation where you cant get the entire image in focus. This may be frustrating but with the help of a digital processing this can be resolved. The remedy to this is to take two images and combine them in Photoshop. Photoshop will do the magic to make the image clear and convincing. To do this, you must take an image focused toward the foreground and the other image favoring the background. Leave some overlapping details in the middle where the two images are supposed to meet. Another alternative is to throw the background out of focus and also take a close-up image of an image. If you combine both images, the result will center on the close-up image however, it will create a certain background that will complement the focal image. The essential elements of this technique are the combination of a small aperture subject to a wide-aperture one and then combining it digitally. If you havent try this, you have to find time to explore this technique and feel the amazing tickle of your masterpiece.
Let us take advantage of the digital change. It is actually making a whole new difference in the photography world. Your artistic side may be telling you to capture the details and relay the message. Make sure you shut in even the minutest detail of the scene. How do you plan to convey the message? Make sure you capture it all!

Customer Review: VERY poor & advertising is not accurate
CAUTION: I am almost certain this review will apply to this model, though I recently bought (and returned) a similar model. Both are about the same price (I bought mine at Sam's Club). Mine is (was) a 1.5x24, this one is a 2.0x24, but otherwise the specs appear to be the same. And the shape and size are the same between the two models, just a different color scheme. The advertising on both says it can be used for surveillance, etc. Not so! If you merely wanted to observe for a while, or wait until the person did something specific or moved to a particular position before deciding what you do next, forget it - he's already aware of you because he can see your red light pointing directly at him. There may be infrared coming out the front, but there's also visible red light which, by definition, is not infrared (which lies between visible light and microwave frequencies).
The pictures on the packaging were deceptive at best, also. Focus is nowhere near as good as what's depicted in the advertising. And make SURE you read the instructions first about initial focus, or you'll never be able to figure out how to focus it.
I really wanted this to work, but was concerned about how good or poor a low-end night vision scope would be. I took it back the very next evening. I'll have to save up for a more expensive scope if I really want a good one that much - this model is not much more than an expensive toy. I wasn't expecting the quality of night vision equipment used by the military, but this was still unacceptable.

+ Excellent Photo Quality- This camera takes excellent large photos under almost any condition, especially low light settings. The in-camera MY COLORS software is impressive, not just a gimmick. I use it in almost every picture I take, whether I want to emphasize one specific color or shoot a B&W picture and illuminate just one color. However, the "Color Swap" feature is useless.
+ Price Point- At $160, this camera is a tremendous value. Canon packs a lot into this package and SD memory cards are dirt cheap when compared to Sony's memory sticks.
+ Speed- Turns on and takes pictures within 2-3 seconds.
+ My Colors- The VIVID feature which accentuates a specific color in a photo (ie. a blue ocean or green grass) is solid and something you will use a lot.
+ Stitch Assist- The stitch assist software is a little elementary but does help create some incredible panoramics. Suggestion: take a few panoramic shots of your target because the pc software may butcher the stitching.
CON's:
- Flash too strong- Portrait shots taken in low light (ie. at a bar) can come out too bright because of the flash. Adjustments can be made to compensate.
- 3x Optical Zoom- Could use a stronger optical zoom, 3x is useless.
- Color Swap- MY COLORS is an amazing in-camera software set, but the Solor Swap feature within My Colors just doesn't work as well as advertised.
Bottom Line: With an excellent price point, great photos, large LCD screen, and compact size, the Canon SD 750 is a solid buy from a company that has dominated this end of the market. If you're more of a photographer and don't mind carrying around a larger camera, the A720IS may be a better alternative.

I've owned Canon Powershot cameras for the last 8 years. I must say that they absolutely get better with age! This is my 4th Powershot and I am not disappointed whatsoever.
The screen is really bright and big... the extra .5 inch that makes it 3" total is really worth it. The startup time is less than a second making it ideal for getting that quick shot when you need to. The size makes it one of the best cameras for hiking or just taking with you in a theme park. It easily fits in my pocket and I almost forget it's there.
The flash is really powerful for it's size and I hope you take time to experiment with the Macro settings for getting real close-ups. There are a lot of modes you can play with on the camera... so it's not just a point and shoot! I use the macro mode all the time to get close-ups of people and flowers. You'd be amazed what you can do with this little guy! I'd highly recommend this Canon Powershot!! Josh

This sounded like a great product. I was disappointed after trying it a few times because it didn't work as described. The alarm kept going off, even when my son (wearing the wrist watch) was right next to me. I had to return it.

The disappointment came when I tried the locate button with him in plane sight only 15 feet away. He was standing in front of me but it said he was behind me. The beep is not very loud in a quiet environment, I couldn't imagine trying it in a mall or as I had planned at a fair.
We re-read the instructions to make sure it was not user error. I had my father (Grandpa) who is an engineer look at it and verify. Trial 2, hide and seek. My son hid in my parents house (small 2 bedroom 800 Sq ft) and it did not sound when he went past the setting I had selected. I tried the find feature, it located our refrigerator which is the opposite direction of where he was hiding ON THE BED in plain view.
It is possible that we were getting some sort of frequency issues as we were technically in part of the Devil's Triangle, or maybe aliens had switched out the watch.

I liked the idea of a DVD based tutorial. However, while this guide does a reasonable job explaining general concepts of digital SLRs and the basics of the a100. It does a poor job explaining the specifics of the a100. A lot of times I had difficulty following along with the demonstrations because they do not explain the nuances of the menu system. I had to have the manual in one hand and the camera in the other, when trying to follow the demonstrations. In at least one instance when the presenter was explaining how to use the camera in Manual Mode "M", his camera was obviously set to Program Mode "P". I guess I'll try one of the printed guides.

You many not think about it all the time, but camera's and fishing go together like peas and carrots. It's always a good idea to have a camera with you while fishing. You just never know when a trophy is going to be landed, and you have to have something for proof, right? Unless you happen to be one of those people who can paint a picture with words, having a camera on your fishing trips is a good idea.
The way technology has advanced in the past 10 or so years, there is no reason that you can't have an inexpensive digital camera with you each and every time you go fishing. Many people think because the word 'digital' is involved it has to be expensive, but this isn't at all the case. Digital cameras have actually become quite affordable, with some styles being less than twenty bucks! Now for $20 doesn't it make sense to at least give one a try? There are obviously more expensive variations available, but my point is that a digital camera doesn't have to break the bank.
A traditional camera can be taken with you on your fishing trip as well, the point is that you need a camera of some kind. If you don't want to spend the extra money for a waterproof camera (they can be a bit more expensive), simply put your camera on a Ziploc freezer bag for protection from any water. You just never know when God might put his hand down and trip you up, causing you to take a tumble into the very water that you intend to fish!
My point to this article is simply to remind you that a camera should always be taken with you while fishing. If you're anything like me and practice catch and release fishing, having pictures of the large fish you catch is nice for the old memory bank. Not to mention the fact that you never know when you might see something that simply has to be captured on film. Can you say Sasquatch?

Customer Review: Very disappointed
I was really excited to get this telescope, having spent years using my old, manual one. The first night I took it out, the motor didn't work correctly. The telescope would move left and right and down, but wouldn't move up. I thought maybe it was just rather stiff because it was new, but after several more attempts, it still doesn't move up. Without the motor working, the telescope is impossible to align correctly, which makes the computerized viewing list of stars and what not worthless. I am returning it and thinking that I will purchase another brand of telescope next time.
Customer Review: Fairly good scope for the money
I may have been spoiled by the Zhumell 10" Dob, but I feel that this telescope will show me what I want to see and more as long as conditions are ideal. I have tried to get alignment by using the Skyalign feature but after 5 attempts I have never been able to get that to work. Auto two star alignment seems to work well. That is what I have been using in place of Skyalign but I feel that aligning on three objects rather than two would give me more accuracy so I am a little miffed about Skyalign not working. I may check for an software update for the handheld controller to see if this helps but I have to have the proprietary cable to hook it up to the computer to flash it so that will be another 15 to 20 smackers and they don't tell you that you will need a usb to RS232 adapter if you want to hook it up to a USB port another 40 smackers or so. These should be included in the package. I am a little po'd at Celestron for that. So far, I have not been able to collimate this scope to my liking. Spider in the front of the scope does not have fine adjustment screws and manual does not say anything about collimating the secondary mirror, only the primary mirror and I believe that is where my problem is. Items look sharp up to about 120x and after that trying to get a sharp image is next to impossible. Anyway I suspect improper collimation is the cause. So far I've only tried collimation through a laser collimater so it is probably suspect. For what it is worth, I've seen nebula and star clusters and planetary objects quite good but not as good as my Zhumell 10". I know, I know that is comparing apples to oranges. All in all a decent starter scope. I would like to get it out of town and into a dark desert to see what I can really see with it. And I would like to get it properly collimated. I think this would make all the difference. Still waiting on the power adapter. That is backordered for months.

Celestron's value priced Powerseeker 60 telescope takes a basic "just the facts" approach to affordable entry level telescopes. The package includes an adjustable aluminum tripod with an alt-azimuth mount and stabilizer, a Kellner type K20 eyepiece, a Ramsden type SR4 eyepiece, a 3x barlow lens, and a 5 power cross-hair finder scope.
The Powerseeker 60 comes disassembled in a compact box, but it won't take long to put everything together. Go ahead and try it out in the daytime, that's the best time to align the finder scope while looking at a distant tree or telephone pole.
My first view of Saturn's rings and star cluster M13 in Hercules came with a 60mm telescope, and I enjoy celestial viewing with the Powerseeker 60 to this day. The secret is to use the low power K20 eyepiece and only extend the tripod legs half-way. This gives me sharp and steady views, whether I'm looking at nearby hills, craters on the Moon, the Double Cluster in Perseus, or even the Andromeda Galaxy!
With a 1.25" focuser and diagonal mirror, it's easy to add better eyepieces. The Kellner type K20 eyepiece yields a 1.1 degree true field of view, better than the Huygens or H-type eyepieces still found in many beginner scopes. Adding an optional Celestron 25mm E-Lux eyepiece is better still. With nearly 2 degrees true field of view, the 25mm E-lux makes it much easier to find objects, either on land or in deep space. The SR4 eyepiece is less impressive; it's like peeking through a pin-hole. Adding the 3x barlow to the SR4 to get that 525x proclaimed on the box is peeking through a dim, fuzzy pin-hole.
I'm surprised that a telescope this inexpensive can be this good. It's good enough to show me Saturn's rings at night or a Steller's Jay at 100 yards during the day. In my opinion, the Powerseeker 60 would be an even better bargain if it came with a K10 eyepiece in place of the 3x barlow and the SR4 eyepiece. Also take a look at Celestron's Firstscope 60AZ; it's only a little more expensive, but it includes two useable eyepieces, a red-dot finder, and planetarium software for your computer. -Jeff Phillips

Customer Review: A Decent Scope for Beginners
I would like to give this item three and a hilf stars. It is a reasonable telescope for a beginner and/or youth at an attractive price from one of the most respected names in optics.
It will show you some of the cooler sites of the universe: the Pleides, the Andromeda Galaxy, Orion and various well defined binaries.
Like any good beginners scope, it will leave you hungry for more. (It will also show how spoiled we have become by Hubble images.)
The Powerseeker is well priced as an entry level scope so that you don't have to spend hundreds for a telescope for junior that will live in his closet after the novelty has worn off.
It comes with three eyepieces and a Barlow extension- impressive for the price.

We had a several college students even try to come and help my daughter use this telescope and was still very disapointed in what you could see, we could see the same amount of items with the naked eye if we stood in our back yard, I wished I could of gotten a full refund on this item , what a bad choice for an Christmas present, never again!

You many not think about it all the time, but camera's and fishing go together like peas and carrots. It's always a good idea to have a camera with you while fishing. You just never know when a trophy is going to be landed, and you have to have something for proof, right? Unless you happen to be one of those people who can paint a picture with words, having a camera on your fishing trips is a good idea.
The way technology has advanced in the past 10 or so years, there is no reason that you can't have an inexpensive digital camera with you each and every time you go fishing. Many people think because the word 'digital' is involved it has to be expensive, but this isn't at all the case. Digital cameras have actually become quite affordable, with some styles being less than twenty bucks! Now for $20 doesn't it make sense to at least give one a try? There are obviously more expensive variations available, but my point is that a digital camera doesn't have to break the bank.
A traditional camera can be taken with you on your fishing trip as well, the point is that you need a camera of some kind. If you don't want to spend the extra money for a waterproof camera (they can be a bit more expensive), simply put your camera on a Ziploc freezer bag for protection from any water. You just never know when God might put his hand down and trip you up, causing you to take a tumble into the very water that you intend to fish!
My point to this article is simply to remind you that a camera should always be taken with you while fishing. If you're anything like me and practice catch and release fishing, having pictures of the large fish you catch is nice for the old memory bank. Not to mention the fact that you never know when you might see something that simply has to be captured on film. Can you say Sasquatch?

Customer Review: Very disappointed
I was really excited to get this telescope, having spent years using my old, manual one. The first night I took it out, the motor didn't work correctly. The telescope would move left and right and down, but wouldn't move up. I thought maybe it was just rather stiff because it was new, but after several more attempts, it still doesn't move up. Without the motor working, the telescope is impossible to align correctly, which makes the computerized viewing list of stars and what not worthless. I am returning it and thinking that I will purchase another brand of telescope next time.
Customer Review: Fairly good scope for the money
I may have been spoiled by the Zhumell 10" Dob, but I feel that this telescope will show me what I want to see and more as long as conditions are ideal. I have tried to get alignment by using the Skyalign feature but after 5 attempts I have never been able to get that to work. Auto two star alignment seems to work well. That is what I have been using in place of Skyalign but I feel that aligning on three objects rather than two would give me more accuracy so I am a little miffed about Skyalign not working. I may check for an software update for the handheld controller to see if this helps but I have to have the proprietary cable to hook it up to the computer to flash it so that will be another 15 to 20 smackers and they don't tell you that you will need a usb to RS232 adapter if you want to hook it up to a USB port another 40 smackers or so. These should be included in the package. I am a little po'd at Celestron for that. So far, I have not been able to collimate this scope to my liking. Spider in the front of the scope does not have fine adjustment screws and manual does not say anything about collimating the secondary mirror, only the primary mirror and I believe that is where my problem is. Items look sharp up to about 120x and after that trying to get a sharp image is next to impossible. Anyway I suspect improper collimation is the cause. So far I've only tried collimation through a laser collimater so it is probably suspect. For what it is worth, I've seen nebula and star clusters and planetary objects quite good but not as good as my Zhumell 10". I know, I know that is comparing apples to oranges. All in all a decent starter scope. I would like to get it out of town and into a dark desert to see what I can really see with it. And I would like to get it properly collimated. I think this would make all the difference. Still waiting on the power adapter. That is backordered for months.

Celestron's value priced Powerseeker 60 telescope takes a basic "just the facts" approach to affordable entry level telescopes. The package includes an adjustable aluminum tripod with an alt-azimuth mount and stabilizer, a Kellner type K20 eyepiece, a Ramsden type SR4 eyepiece, a 3x barlow lens, and a 5 power cross-hair finder scope.
The Powerseeker 60 comes disassembled in a compact box, but it won't take long to put everything together. Go ahead and try it out in the daytime, that's the best time to align the finder scope while looking at a distant tree or telephone pole.
My first view of Saturn's rings and star cluster M13 in Hercules came with a 60mm telescope, and I enjoy celestial viewing with the Powerseeker 60 to this day. The secret is to use the low power K20 eyepiece and only extend the tripod legs half-way. This gives me sharp and steady views, whether I'm looking at nearby hills, craters on the Moon, the Double Cluster in Perseus, or even the Andromeda Galaxy!
With a 1.25" focuser and diagonal mirror, it's easy to add better eyepieces. The Kellner type K20 eyepiece yields a 1.1 degree true field of view, better than the Huygens or H-type eyepieces still found in many beginner scopes. Adding an optional Celestron 25mm E-Lux eyepiece is better still. With nearly 2 degrees true field of view, the 25mm E-lux makes it much easier to find objects, either on land or in deep space. The SR4 eyepiece is less impressive; it's like peeking through a pin-hole. Adding the 3x barlow to the SR4 to get that 525x proclaimed on the box is peeking through a dim, fuzzy pin-hole.
I'm surprised that a telescope this inexpensive can be this good. It's good enough to show me Saturn's rings at night or a Steller's Jay at 100 yards during the day. In my opinion, the Powerseeker 60 would be an even better bargain if it came with a K10 eyepiece in place of the 3x barlow and the SR4 eyepiece. Also take a look at Celestron's Firstscope 60AZ; it's only a little more expensive, but it includes two useable eyepieces, a red-dot finder, and planetarium software for your computer. -Jeff Phillips

Customer Review: A Decent Scope for Beginners
I would like to give this item three and a hilf stars. It is a reasonable telescope for a beginner and/or youth at an attractive price from one of the most respected names in optics.
It will show you some of the cooler sites of the universe: the Pleides, the Andromeda Galaxy, Orion and various well defined binaries.
Like any good beginners scope, it will leave you hungry for more. (It will also show how spoiled we have become by Hubble images.)
The Powerseeker is well priced as an entry level scope so that you don't have to spend hundreds for a telescope for junior that will live in his closet after the novelty has worn off.
It comes with three eyepieces and a Barlow extension- impressive for the price.
