What You Need To Know About Single Lens Reflex Cameras

Most folks who buy a digital camera are just looking for an easy way to take high quality photos of their family, friends, and special events that can be shared with others. But others are interested in other aspects of photography as well, perhaps landscapes, closeups, still lifes, or art photography. For them, the compact digital camera can be used to create a fine image if they are skilled enough, but a digital single lens reflex camera gives them the ultimate of control and versatility instead.

The image quality in many digital SLRs is much greater than that found in most smaller compact cameras. The digital image sensors are usually larger, and therefore yields more information on each photo taken. For all but the most demanding of users, a 6 - 8 megapixel camera will be fine, yielding very high quality images on up to about 11 X 14 inch sizes. There are higher resolution digital SLRs available for those that need it though, but just expect to pay more for these higher end cameras.

Digital SLRs are capable of being used in manual mode, allowing you to have total control over the composition and settings of each photo, but they can also be operated very successfully in fully automatic mode too, making using one almost as simple as a point and shoot camera. This can come in very handy for those folks that need a camera that can be used by more than one person with differing photographic skill levels, and still get great results either way.

Digital SLRs are usually bigger than other normal digital cameras, but many people see that as a plus because they often feel more substantial and solid in the hand, and the controls can even be easier for those with larger hands to use comfortably.

Of course, a great advantage of digital SLRs is the ability to switch lenses easily and quickly for different kinds of shots, and the good news is that many film camera brands of lenses can be used on the same brand of digital SLR saving you the cost of extra lenses.

Another solid benefit of digital SLRs is that they usually power up almost instantly and have almost no shutter lag between the time you press the shutter and the moment that the photo is actually recorded. Some regular digital cameras can take a few seconds to power on and then have up to a second or so of shutter delay on top of that. So if you like to shoot fast action scenes, a digital SLR can be a big benefit.

So if you like having more creative control or want to have the flexibility to expand your photographic skills in the future, a digital single lens reflex camera can make a great choice.

Customer Review: Excellent Buy!

This is a perfect bag for my Canon S5IS. The extra space for batteries and memory cards is and added advantage.

Customer Review: Great case for the Canon S3 IS

I actually purchased the Digital Starter Kit Bundle which inluded the case as well as CD sleeves, cable ties, a polishing cloth, mini tripod, and a memory card holder / case.

I found this to be a perfect fit for my camera. I'm not sure what "Will" from CA is having an issue with, but i fit the camera w/ strap, the memory carring case, the cloth, and the mini tripod in the bag with plenty of room to spare for extra batteries and more. The S3 is such an odd size that it was hard to find something perfect. Most cases I found were too big (made for full sized SLR cameras) or too small (for the P+S type cameras). I found this case to be perfect, not too big that things slide around, and not so small that I worry about breaking things as I put them in the bag.

Customer Review: Nice little unit...when it's working

I've had a fairly decent experience with my SkyFi3. First, don't even bother with the FM modulation...get it properly installed or do it yourself. I had a local installer mount the skyfi and run all the cables, and wire it into the Aux jack on my radio, and the results are quite nice. The radio does cut out once in awhile while driving but it's fairly rare. The features on this unit are quite nice, with built-in memory and the ability to upgrade with a microSD card, ability to record programs (not a whole lot of use in the car, but useful if you have a home kit like I do). It's also really easy to record a song on the radio to save in memory, and the cradle has presets to access your favorite stations. I did find the navigation and menus somewhat confusing and often was lost trying to get to the right screen or find the right function. But I've certainly seen worse in this area. If you tend to easily get confused by electronics though, there probably are more user-friendly units than this one.

The biggest problem with this radio, and the reason I have to drop it to 3 stars is the locking issue. As others have mentioned, it does sometimes freeze up and there does not seem to be any way to reboot it, you just have to unplug it until the battery dies out (which can take awhile!) Why they don't have a simple reset button like most small electonics do is beyond me, it would make the problems with freezing far less frustrating. Suffice to say, if you get this radio, make sure you always bring some CDs along on a long trip so you aren't stuck with nothing to listen to if it freezes up (as it always seemed to do for me when I was on long drives.)

Customer Review: Horrible XM Unit

I got this unit for my birthday just under a year ago.

The volume is much lower than the Roady2 I had before this. I have a pretty nice system in my car and i have to max out all of the settings on the unit AND turn the volume up all the way in my car to hear it loud enough.

Also everytime I turn the unit on all the settings and favorites have been erased so I have to turn up all of the settings everytime I start my car.

I mainly use this unit at work at my desk plugged into the home kit. When I answer the phone or leave my desk Ill pause the unit. Sometimes Ill build up to an hour of delay. Ill be listening and all of a sudden it jumps 40 minutes forward to the middle of a commercial and the worst part is IT WONT LET ME REWIND BACK!!

The one and only good thing ill say is the screen is very bright and easy to read at night in my car.

Overall this is a cheap unit. Since purchasing Ive read so many horrible reviews on this and would not recommend buying this unit.

Kodak 8695611 USB AC Adapter

Kodak 8695611 USB AC Adapter
Easily convert your USB charging cable to charge your USB devices from any wall outlet with this handy AC adapter.

Customer Review: Great Product when used as directed!

Many users do not understand that not ALL Kodak cameras can be charged via USB port. Only certain cameras Kodak makes will take a charge with this unit. That being said, it works exactly as described for our M853 Camera. However, our DX7590 will NOT charge via USB port, so this doesn't work for that camera, it must be charged via the base or a printer. I will note, that this USB AC Adapter, can ALSO be used to charge any Ipod with a dock connection USB Cable! This unit is the EXACT SAME voltage, wattage and amperage as the similar "ipod" charger selling on their site for $29.99 ($39.99 yesterday at the Shack!) Now, this charger is doing double duty, charging our camera & our ipod! We pd only $9.99 for this unit @ Target on vacation when our charger died! We love it!

Customer Review: Waste of Money

This product is a waste of money because the adapater that Kodak provides with the camera to convert mini-plug to regular will not pass sufficient current to charge batteries.

I bought a Kodak V1253 camera, excellent in all other regards, and took it back to the retailer when I could not get the battery to charge. Retailer gave me a new camera, but same problem occurred.

The retailer, in an effort to satsify my concerns, provided an external battery charger at half price. While it charged the battery to full-charge, I have to reset the camera every time I remove the battery to recharge.

Buy the Kodak AC Adapter (not the USB AC Adapter) and save yourself a lot of grief.

Customer Review: Shooting Your Wii Away

There is no doubt about the success of the Wii, and what had made the Wii Zapper a triumph with games like Link's Crossbow Training. Sadly, there is always a third-party knockoff that just doesn't feel right. This Wii Magnum Gun spinoff, brings the use of the Wii within the shooter games. Although it works good on some games like Link's Crossbow Training and Resident Evil 4, it just doesn't measure on all titles like Call Of Duty 3, or smaller first-person shooters like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It also doesn't always respond with the Wii-mote all the time. Instead, I really suggest you stick with the Wii Zapper, and just hope that there are more games that you can use to play with it.

Customer Review: Remove the Spring and Fire Away

Nice gun, well balanced in the hand. I bought two of these to play House of the Dead 2&3 with because I remembered the original arcade game had a similar style of gun. I like it cause you can aim and fire with one hand, as opposed to the Wii Zapper which requires you to use two hands to operate the gun.

After playing HoD with this gun for two hours, my trigger finger was sore and developed a blister due to the high spring tension. I opened up the gun and removed the spring. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Now the trigger has virtually no travel to fire the B button. The trigger action is now as fast and soft as using the Wiimote without the gun. Also this elimiates the firing delay that a few other reviewers talked about. It's so much easier to kill zombies now!

I also agree that the Wii strap does get in the way when inserting the wiimote into the gun. It's possible, but not too hard to leave the stap on, and get the wiimote into the gun.
